Mayani Partnered With Rippleworks To Refine Their Farmers Dashboard Application Using a User-Centric Approach

Mayani is an ag-ecommerce platform that directly sources fresh produce and agricultural products from over 60,000 smallholder farmers and distributes to 11,000+ retail customers and 230+ commercial stores, ultimately increasing farmer incomes. Mayani visits farmer cooperatives and onboards groups of farmers at a time. Mayani handles first mile pick up, transports produce to a hub, does a quality check, and then packs and distributes the produce. This cuts out 6-8 layers of middle people.

In the Philippines, there are ~10M smallholder farmers below the poverty line lacking access to infrastructure and fair markets to sell their crops and produce. There are several layers of middle-people in the fragmented, inefficient, and inequitable supply chain sector of Philippine agriculture, which leads to high rates of food loss (as high as 67% in the Philippines compared to 30% global average) and below market prices.

As Mayani scales, they need a strong foundation and understanding of their supply chain to connect their 100,000 farmers with sellers. Mayani saw that this would ultimately lead to a more efficient agricultural supply chain with increased farmer power through information and market access.

Mayani began developing a Farmers Dashboard application to connect with farmers to develop near rea-time agricultural data. Their intent was to achieve greater visibility on potential supply of fruits and vegetables from their partner farmers.

Mayani partnered with Meghan Lomas,  a user focused product expert, who brought experience in leading new product launches. They refined their application with a user centric approach.

They worked together to:

• Understand the core users for the Farmers Dashboard: They did this by building user profiles and a value proposition, creating a vision plan and testing dashboard prototypes.

• Established a vision for the Farmers Dashboard: They clarified the use cases for the Application and refined the key product requirements, providing clarity for their team.

Built a plan for execution: This roadmap for the Dashboard with examples, best practices and methods for product roll-out and adoption gave Mayani the tools they needed to successfully launch their refined product.
